While each of these religions has its unique characteristics and practices, there are also notable similarities and differences that set them apart. In this article, we will delve into the similarities, differences, … Continue reading Comparing Islam, Judaism, and Christianity

Islamic stance on Christmas I remind my brothers from among the students of sacred knowledge that the scholars who forbid congratulating non-Muslims on their religious celebrations tied their judgement to the assumption that congratulating affirms certain tenets of belief (held by non-Muslims) that are diametrically opposed to Islam. They anchored their judgement on a widespread understanding and custom particular to their time that congratulating others … Continue reading Habib Ali al-Jifri on Christmas

They say first impressions are everything. In those first moments of meeting someone new, psychologists say you’ll both be scoping out the same four facial features. For example, you’ll assess how much they look like a baby. Wait, what? Don’t Judge Me While you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, we can’t help but do it. And not to put pressure on you or … Continue reading 4 Facial Features

What is Hijab To some this may be yet another Hijab post but this one is different, I want to look at the Hijab in the modern world. I also want to explore the emphasis of the word Hijab, how it’s commonly only referred to as the headscarf. What is the Hijab Candy Wrapper Fashionable Hijabs Hijab for Men Hijab in the Bible What is … Continue reading What is Hijab

Mites on our face You’ll be as amazed (and disgusted) as I was after reading this post, did you know you have microscopic animals living on your face? Yes, they spend their entire lives on the face, where they eat, mate and finally die. There are two species of mite that live on your face: The Demodex Folliculorum and the D Brevis. Demodex mites have … Continue reading Our Mite Inhabitants!

Guidelines for the Muslim Community regarding new cartoons to be published Tomorrow – Wednesday 14 January 2015

The following points are general guidelines for Muslims on how to initially deal with and immediately react to the depiction of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in magazines (Charlie Hebdo) due to be published tomorrow (WEDNESDAY).

1. For every Muslim, Love of the Prophet ﷺ is a NECESSARY part of his/her FAITH. He is dearer to us than our mothers, fathers, sons & daughters. We prefer him to our own self.

2. The publishing of cartoons will hurt the sentiments of 1.8 billion Muslims around the world, as well as millions of non-Muslims who respect the great personality of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

3. Muslims do believe in freedom of Continue reading “Cartoon of the beloved”

Love is a special and complicated emotion which can be difficult to understand. Most people believe that love revolves around the heart but more modernists are starting to believe it actually occurs in the brain. Here’s a list of possible theories/explanations that I’ve come up with: Continue reading What do you make of love?

It is not only humanity that was liberated by the coming of Islam but Animals too. Animals had rights, owning an animal never meant it was absolutely your property any more. Britain’s oldest animal shelter was formed in the nineteenth century, whilst 1200 years ago Muslims set up the first animal welfare centres. There is a popular but often neglected Hadith where:   A good … Continue reading Animal rights in Islam

Best tea-bagged tea ever Looking to impress someone with your tea making skills? Follow these steps in order to rustle up the perfect cup of tea: Make sure the kettle is clean; no limescale or debris. Ever wondered Why You Look Different in Photos Than You Do in the Mirror? Yesterday evening, before you went out, you’re pretty sure you looked real good. So who the hell is this schlub in the Facebook album from last night, tagged with your name? It’s a phenomenon nestled somewhere between universal annoyance and urban legend: People see something different in the mirror than they … Continue reading What you really look like

Within Islam there is an aspect that looks to prevent zina among the sexes. It also looks to protect society by introducing certain measures, i.e. minimum interaction between non mahrams. Every restriction Continue reading “Know Your Mahrams”

Once a Traveller asked Imam Ghazali, ‘How do you see life?’ Imam Ghazali replied using an analogy, he said:

Once a man was walking through the jungle, a roaring lion ran towards him. The man, fearing for his life, ran as fast as he could to escape from the lion. Shortly, he saw a well and jumped inside hoping to escape from the lion. As he jumped Continue reading “Analogy of life”

A man was sick and tired of going to work every day while his wife stayed home.

He wanted her to see what he went through so he prayed:

‘Dear Lord:
I go to work every day and put
in 8 hours while my wife
merely stays at home.
I want her to know what
I go through
So, please allow her body to
switch with mine for a day.’

God, in his infinite wisdom, granted Continue reading “Im not sexist, See…”

This art illustrates my interpretation of revolution or that of evolution.

From left to right, the small yellow squares represent a particular way of life, a system in nature or that of the an institution. The systematical rows of these squares declare a passage of continuous time where not much change is happening. However, on the third row Continue reading “Cause of a Revolution”

Personality Vs Character There is a trend amongst young people where the following phrase is asserted ‘its not about looks, its about personality’. I think its actually really silly and selfish to think like this; you’re actually just as shallow as one who only focuses on looks. What most of you probably mean or should mean is It’s about the character. There’s obviously confusion between the … Continue reading Personality Vs Character

Wondering how to do ibadah (worship) while playing a sport? A few years ago a friend and I followed our beloved Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) advice and started archery.   The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) once passed by some people of the tribe of Bani Aslam who were practicing archery. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said:   “O Bani Isma`il ! Practice archery as your father Isma`il was a great archer. Keep on throwing arrows and I am with Bani so-and-so.” [Bukhari]

I pulled out an old wooden bow from the attic and bought some arrows. Five minutes away was an archery club and it turned out to be the place I would go to several times a week for years to come. It didn’t take long before I decided to get some serious equipment. Here are some of the most important lessons I learnt about and through archery over the years: Continue reading “Secrets in Archery”

Survival of the Fittest Darwin has wrote about the ‘Survival of the Fittest’, I’ve realised its not only that, that is necessary. Those who survive, succeed, get ahead or gain victory are those who have a more need, a want and a must coupled with a passionate desire to reach the goal. I drew the above picture to express a little better. Two cars racing to the end. Looking at the … Continue reading Survival of the fittest

The Money Flower Here is a flower made from bank notes and a coin. It is metaphorical of life. Without plants, humans can not survive, without money humans can not survive. Money is like Oxygen in this era. Many believe that money defines who you are and subsequently your place in society – but money, like a flower, eventually dies. So money is not as … Continue reading Money Flower

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,

“Oh excuse me please” went my reply.
He said “please excuse me too,
I wasn’t watching for you”.
We were very polite, this stranger and I,
We went on our way and we said goodbye.
But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, Continue reading “Love thy son more than thy neighbour”

Why are women so Fussy?

A store that sells husbands to single women opens where a woman may go to choose from many available men. At the entrance is a description of how the store operates.

There are only six floors. It states that the attributes of the men increase as the shopper ascends the flights. There is, however, a catch: As you open the door to any floor you may choose any man from that floor, but if you go up a floor, you cannot go back down except Continue reading “Husbands for sale”
